Resplendent in his full Tudor-scarlet and gold State Dress uniform — red velvet doublet and knee breeches trimmed in gold braid, a broad-brimmed hat with rosette, campaign medals proudly displayed on his chest, and a halberd (partizan) topped with its red silk tassel — a bewhiskered Yeoman Warder stands guard at a massive iron-studded oak door inside the Tower of London, his white ruff and decorative rosette shoes completing an image that has barely changed since Henry VII established the corps in 1485. This richly hand-coloured photographic card from the celebrated Wrench Series (No. 879), printed in Saxony at the peak of German chromolithographic craftsmanship, captures one of the most iconic figures of British ceremonial life and was produced under Post Office Regulation allowing message-writing in the British Isles only — confirming an undivided-back or early-transitional date of approximately 1902–1903. The postal rate box on the reverse specifies "Inland ½d / Foreign 1d," a rate structure in force 1897–1918.
