Antique Postcard 1900s Paris Le Trocadéro Palace France Pre-WWI Unused

Paris, France1908Pre-linenGood

Before the Moorish-Byzantine fantasy of the original Trocadéro Palace was demolished to make way for the 1937 Palais de Chaillot, a photographer captured its full ornate glory in this evocative sepia-toned postcard — twin minarets rise above a horseshoe-plan façade dripping with terracotta ornament, while Edwardian-era strollers in long skirts and top hats take the air in the manicured foreground gardens. Built for the 1878 Paris Universal Exposition to designs by Gabriel Davioud and Jules Bourdais, the Trocadéro became one of the most recognizable — and most debated — buildings in Paris before its 1937 demolition. The card's divided back with "Carte Postale / Correspondance / Adresse" format and absence of any publisher imprint place it in the pre-WWI French carte postale era (c.1904–1914), consistent with the building's still-intact appearance. The sepia halftone image is sharp and full of atmospheric detail. Unused and unwritten.
