Postcard 1980s Hotel El Presidente Cancun Quintana Roo Mexico Aerial View Chrome

Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico1982ChromeGood

Soaring above the turquoise shallows of Cancún's hotel zone, this chrome-era aerial-view postcard captures the Hotel El Presidente in its mid-development glory — the modernist tower rising behind a sprawling low-rise complex, a small marina and pier jutting into the Caribbean, a tennis court and swimming pool tucked into the tropical grounds, and an early golf course still carved from raw coastal scrub in the background. It's a snapshot of Cancún before the Zona Hotelera filled in, when the resort strip was still finding its shape in the early 1980s. The sender — signing as "Deck & Betty" — writes to George and June on a Wednesday: "3 days gone already. Weather sunny & breezy all the time. Friday we are going to the Ruins. See you soon." The card was mailed from Quintana Roo (postmark partially legible as "Q. ROO") bearing a Mexican $1.60 Aéreo stamp in the Bicicletas/Mexico Export series — a striking graphic stamp depicting a bicycle in bold black and orange.
