Postcard c1910 Dakar Senegal Cap Manuel Cap-Vert West Africa French Colony

Dakar, Senegal1910Pre-linenGood

Dramatic coastal wilderness meets colonial-era West Africa in this haunting black-and-white real-photo-style card of Cap Manuel (Cap-Vert) near Dakar, Senegal — a rocky promontory jutting into the Atlantic ringed by towering baobab trees, spiky agave plants, and a glittering bay, with a clifftop settlement faintly visible on the horizon. Issued under the banner of "Afrique Occidentale Française" and numbered 19 in the Collection Generale series printed in Dakar, this undivided or early divided-back carte postale dates to approximately 1905–1915 — the heart of France's colonial apogee in West Africa. Cap Manuel today is a well-known headland in central Dakar; in this era it was a quiet, semi-wild cape on the edge of a rapidly growing colonial capital. The card is unused and unaddressed, a clean specimen of early francophone African postal ephemera that is genuinely scarce on the Western collector market.
