Postcard UDB Edinburgh Castle Scott Monument Scotland c.1905 Hartmann Saxony

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK1906Pre-linenExcellent

A sweeping bird's-eye panorama of Princes Street captures Edinburgh at its Edwardian zenith — the ornate Gothic spire of the Scott Monument piercing the sky above manicured gardens, electric trams threading through crowds of shoppers, and Edinburgh Castle brooding on its volcanic crag in the upper left — all rendered in the exquisite chromolithographic detail for which Saxony-printed cards of this era are prized by collectors worldwide. Published by Hartmann, one of Germany's premier postcard houses whose "Trade Mark / Trade Name" cartouche appears in green on the reverse with the "Printed in Saxony" imprint, this undivided-style card (divided back, pre-message-side printing) remains unused and pristine with a penciled dealer note of "100" in the stamp corner. The Scott Monument, completed in 1846, remains the world's largest monument to a novelist, and Princes Street views from this angle are among the most sought-after Edwardian Edinburgh cards.
