Postcard c1910 Wien Vienna Volksgarten Park Fountain Pre-Linen Austria Unused

Vienna (Wien), Austria1910Pre-linenGood

An afternoon of leisure in imperial Vienna — this hand-tinted pre-linen postcard presents the Volksgarten ("People's Garden"), the beloved public park that opened in 1820 on the site of fortifications Napoleon had blown apart a decade earlier, now a cherished democratic green space minutes from the Burgtheater and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, whose dome peers through the treetops in the background. A graceful Victorian fountain pool occupies the foreground, its circular basin rimmed with decorative edging, while a few elegantly dressed Viennese strollers — a woman in a long skirt and a uniformed gentleman — linger near the balustrade of what appears to be the Theseus Temple side of the garden. Mature plane trees create a dappled canopy, and the whole scene breathes the unhurried confidence of the late Habsburg afternoon. The card's blue-green chromolithographic sky and warm sepia-toned stonework match the style of PC-02861, suggesting both may originate from the same Vienna scenic series of c. 1905–1914. Reverse is entirely blank and unused.
