Postcard 1902 Ebensee mit Traunausfluss Austria UDB Correspondenz-Karte Hotel

Ebensee, Upper Austria, Austria1902Pre-linenFair-Good

At the southern tip of the Traunsee where the emerald river spills out of the lake into Ebensee, this undivided-back silver-gelatin postcard from 22 September 1902 preserves a town that was then a nexus of Austria's salt industry and early tourism — chimneys and church towers jostling for skyline space beneath the sheer limestone walls of the Traunstein massif. Published by Friedrich Ernst Brandt of Gmunden, the card was sent to Karl in Vienna (Haarngasse 7, Wien IX) from the Hotel Post in Ebensee, whose proprietor Carl L. Koch stamped the back with an ornate blue-ink hotel cachet — a rare and desirable lodging ephemera detail. The 5-Heller blue Franz Josef stamp, machine-cancelled at Ebensee on 22 September 1902, carries one of the earliest Heller-denomination machine cancels on record for this town.
