Postcard c1915 Santa Fe Trail Marker Penn Valley Park Kansas City MO Linen

Kansas City, Missouri, USA1915Pre-linenGood

Two gleaming early automobiles — one a jaunty open touring car carrying passengers in motoring dress, the other a closed sedan — navigate a graceful park roundabout in this gorgeously hand-tinted card of Penn Valley Park, Kansas City, Missouri, circa 1915. At the center of the traffic island stands a modest but historically charged stone marker commemorating the eastern terminus of the Santa Fe Trail, that legendary 900-mile wagon road that once linked Missouri to the American Southwest. The warm amber-and-green palette of the card's coloring perfectly suits the dappled autumn light falling through mature trees, with a glimpse of a distant water feature catching the last of a rose-tinted sky. Published by Hall Bros. of Kansas City — the firm that would later evolve into Hallmark Cards — this unposted card is a triple delight for automobile, Santa Fe Trail, and Kansas City park collectors alike.
