A rust-sailed fishing smack glides into the calm waters of Ramsey Harbour as the whitewashed quayside buildings and a distant clocktower reflect in the still bay — this hand-tinted Edwardian gem from the Isle of Man captures the island's seafaring character at the height of the picture-postcard craze, published in Barr's Series and printed in Saxony with the distinctive triskelion (three-legged) Isle of Man crest embossed on the reverse. An undivided-back format (writing space for inland use only) and the foreign postage rate of 1d printed on the card place this firmly in the pre-1902 to circa 1904 transitional era. The card was never mailed, leaving the back pristine and the front image vivid in its original tinted glory.
