Postcard 1904 Port Skillion Douglas Isle of Man Harbour Colour Swimmers

Douglas, Isle of Man, British Isles1904Pre-linenGood

Bathers cluster on the rocky ledges of Port Skillion — Douglas's beloved natural sea-swimming cove — while a steam packet ship rides at anchor in the outer harbour, its masts silhouetted against the hills of the Isle of Man in this glorious hand-coloured Edwardian scene that captures the island at the height of its popularity as a working-class holiday destination. The jagged volcanic rockface tumbles into crystal-green water, and a wooden diving platform juts from the cliff face, as crowds in Edwardian bathing attire watch swimmers below. A narrow-gauge tramway track is visible along the cliff top, hinting at the island's celebrated transport heritage. The back is printed "Post Card — Great Britain & Ireland / Writing space for Inland use only" — a format used after the 1902 divided-back regulations and specifically indicating the card was intended for domestic British/Irish postal use only. The card is unused and in very good condition with only slight corner softening.
