Postcard 1952 Oxford From Magdalen Tower RPPC Real Photo Walter Scott Used

Oxford, England1945RPPCFair-Good

From the lofty vantage of Magdalen Tower, the dreaming spires of Oxford unfurl in a sweeping panorama — the High Street cutting a straight corridor through honey-stone colleges toward the distant dome of the Radcliffe Camera, Christ Church's Tom Tower just visible at the skyline's left edge, while Magdalen College's own pinnacled range fills the right foreground in crisp silvered detail. This superb real-photograph postcard by Walter Scott of Bradford (copyright, negative F.404) captures the city on a clear day, carriageway still mercifully lightly trafficked with only a handful of early motor vehicles. Sent from London on 29 November (year partially legible) to Familie Grohwandtner at Buchholzerst 20, Minnishholz, Austria, the message is written in German by a traveller evidently en route through Oxford: the writer notes visiting the city and conveys warm greetings to all. A classic "golden era" topographical RPPC of one of England's most photographed vistas.
