Antique & Vintage Postcards

A warm ochre glow suffuses this exquisite watercolour rendering of Exeter Cathedral's celebrated West Front, its soaring 14th-century Gothic screen alive with tracery, pinnacles, and a great rose window that draws the eye heavenward — a scene that must have stopped Victorian and Edwardian travellers in their tracks. The image, published by Worth's Art Gallery on Cathedral Close in Exeter, belongs to their prestige "Worth's Series" of art reproductions sold as postcards, positioning this piece squarely in the golden age of the picture postcard craze (c.1902–1910). The hand of the artist — signed in the lower right as S. Cathcart — renders the Norman towers behind the Decorated Gothic façade with confident, atmospheric washes, figures tiny at the entrance lending human scale. The card is unused and unposted, preserving its cream stock in fine condition, a little toning at the borders consistent with age.
