Antique & Vintage Postcards

A silhouetted coconut palm fans its fronds across a molten Caribbean sky as the sun drops into the sea — this vivid chrome-era card from Aruba captures the island's signature dusk in one breathtaking frame, mailed air mail in 1993 by a couple named Mark and Mary Beth to a woman named Christine in Lisle, Illinois, who they urged to "take care of yourself" with the easy warmth of people utterly at peace on a sunny island. Photographer Kris Coppieters composed the shot so the palm trunk bisects the glowing orb perfectly, framed by a classic rounded-corner border and the bold serif legend "ARUBA" above — a design that evokes the golden age of Caribbean tourism promotion. The card traveled via the AW (Air West/Antillean Airmail) system on an Aruba 60-cent windsurfer stamp, postmarked through South Suburban IL on arrival.
