Antique & Vintage Postcards

Row upon row of international flags snap in a Caribbean breeze along the gleaming white façade of the International Airport Hotel at San Juan's Isla Verde Airport — a mid-century modern landmark purpose-built for the jet-age traveller who needed a comfortable bed between hemispheres, and one of the first dedicated airport hotels in the Caribbean basin. The chrome-era colour is vivid: turquoise sky, a reflecting lagoon to the left, Volkswagen Beetles and early American sedans parked at the kerb — a snapshot of Puerto Rico's postwar tourism boom that transformed Isla Verde into a glittering gateway. The card was issued by Executive House, Inc., the hotel management group, and printed by Curt Teich of Chicago using their patented 3-D Natural Color Reproduction process (code 2DK-1606, dating to the early-to-mid 1960s).
