Seven young brown bears — Junge Braunbären — rear up on their hind legs in a rocky, grotto-style enclosure at the Nuremberg Tiergarten, captured in a crisp black-and-white photograph that radiates the playful chaos of feeding time or a well-timed cue from a keeper just off-frame. The Nuremberg Zoo, one of Germany's oldest, rebuilt and expanded its bear facilities in the 1920s–30s; this official zoo postcard, photographed by Rud. Knauer of the city's municipal building authority (Städt. Hochbauamt) and printed by Zerreiss & Co. of Nuremberg, dates to that interwar period of civic pride and zoological modernization — just years before the war would shutter the zoo's grandest ambitions. The card is unused, with a clean divided back and single address line.
