1915 Comic Postcard Farmer "By Heck I Miss Somethin" Lebo KS Cancel Grace

Lebo, Kansas, USA1915Pre-linenGood

Rosy-cheeked and gap-toothed with charm, this jolly old farmer perched on a tree stump — pitchfork in hand, suspenders bright red, knees patched — grins out from a 1915 comic postcard that Grace sent to her friend Rose in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, from the tiny Kansas town of Lebo. The sentiment beneath him reads "By heck! I miss somethin' — an' that somethin's you!" — a rustic, affectionate message perfectly matched by Grace's own handwritten note on the reverse, which is packed with personality: she tells Rose she likes cake crumbs, confesses her mother is ill and expecting a visit from Grace's brother in August, mentions they "go somewhere or having fun every day — some fast life!" and closes warmly, "Remember me to all the bunch — Yours in agony, Grace." The card bears a Lebo, Kansas duplex postmark dated July 9, 1915, and is franked with a 1-cent green Washington stamp. The printed series number 615/2 appears at lower left. Light corner wear and some toning, but the chromolithographic illustration retains vivid color.
