Antique & Vintage Postcards

Written in a grandmother's looping cursive, this well-traveled chrome multiview card from Kitzbühel bursts with Alpine winter magic — ski lifts, a horse-drawn sleigh, snow-laden village panoramas, and a tiny chapel all arrayed around a bold red graphic frame — while on the back, a woman named Grandma writes to Jimmie and Jason in Elgin, Illinois about missing Easter bunnies, a concert that evening, and dancers the following night, painting an endearing picture of a spirited solo traveler making the most of postwar European tourism. Kitzbühel, one of Austria's most glamorous ski resorts, was at the height of its jet-set popularity in the late 1960s. The card was sent airmail (Flugpost) from Kitzbühel postmarked 1968, franked with two Austrian stamps including a scenic mountain definitive. The publisher Monopolverlag Schöllhorn commemorates its own 50th anniversary (1918–1968) on the card's reverse, making the date certain.
