Postcard 1918 Graz Uhrturm Schlossberg Clock Tower Austria Pre-Linen Used

Graz, Austria1918Pre-linenGood

Graz's beloved Uhrturm — the medieval clock tower that has watched over Styria's capital since the 13th century — dominates the left foreground of this warm-toned hand-colored lithographic card, its massive Roman-numeral face gazing out over a sweeping panorama of rooftops, church spires, and the silvery Mur river winding through the city below, all bathed in a golden-amber Edwardian palette that makes the scene feel like a painting rather than a photograph. Published in 1918 by Franz Knollmüller of Graz — a date confirmed by the Imperial Austrian 10-Heller stamp franking and the publisher's imprint — this card was sent during the final turbulent months of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, just before its dissolution in November 1918. The recipient was a young woman named Berta (Frl. Berta Bachler) at Fulenstr. [?], Yrockenburg — likely a small Styrian or Lower Austrian town. The message, written in traditional Kurrent script, is full and legible to a trained reader, a personal voice from a world on the edge of collapse.
