Antique & Vintage Postcards

A hallucinatory vertical cityscape explodes off this oversized art postcard in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's unmistakable visual language — skyscrapers warped into organic, almost bodily forms, their grid-windows bleeding red and green against a black void, punctuated by luminous lime-green teardrop "trees" that seem to float free of gravity. This is Good Morning City – Bleeding Town (catalogue no. 686), painted by Hundertwasser in 1970 and here reproduced in a limited edition of 10,000 by Gruener Janura AG of Glarus, Switzerland in 1981. The front carries the artist's characteristic color-swatch legend at lower left and the hand-applied metallic silver embellishments visible in the close-up detail shots — a hallmark of Gruener Janura's high-quality Hundertwasser postcard editions. The card's edition number, 6077/10000, is printed at the lower center, making this an individually numbered limited-edition collectible rather than a mass-market reproduction. The reverse is a striking matte black with white typography — spare and elegant. Hundertwasser (1928–2000) was the Austrian visionary whose ecological philosophy and rejection of the straight line made his paintings, architecture, and prints among the most distinctive of the 20th century.
