Postcard RPPC Masonic Hall Streator IL c1910 C.U. Williams Photoette

Streator, Illinois, USA1910RPPCGood

A crisp real-photo postcard captures the proud brick mass of Masonic Hall in Streator, Illinois — its classical portico columns and pedimented entrance projecting civic ambition on a quiet corner lot, smoke curling from a distant stack in the grey midwestern sky. Streator, a coal-mining boomtown in La Salle County, supported a thriving fraternal culture in the early 1900s; this lodge building, with its dentil cornices and round-arched pediment bearing Masonic insignia, was a centerpiece of that social world. The Photoette process, used by C.U. Williams of Bloomington, Illinois, produced sharp gelatin silver prints mounted on postcard stock — placing this firmly in the 1907–1918 undivided/divided-back transitional era. The back is entirely unused, with the penciled price notation "20" suggesting dealer inventory handling. A fine example of small-city Illinois fraternal architecture photography.
