Chicago, Illinois, USA1908Pre-linenVery Good to Excellent
Colorized view of 'THE GHETTO CHICAGO' — Maxwell Street, the heart of Chicago's Eastern European Jewish immigrant community on the Near West Side. The bustling open-air market shows vendors selling vegetables (tomatoes, greens, onions) from baskets, barrels, and wagons, with dozens of shoppers in period dress including women in long skirts and shawls, men in hats. Streetcar tracks run down the center; horse-drawn wagons appear in the left background; storefronts with awnings line both sides; Hebrew/Yiddish lettering is visible on at least one sign.
