Founded in 1882 by the Frauen-Verein des Deutschen Altenheims and incorporated in Illinois in 1885, the institution grew to 20 acres and housed some 300 residents by the time this card was printed — its fourth building having been completed in 1940, making that the earliest possible production date. The reverse carries a bilingual institutional history printed in German blackletter and English, a charming artifact of the Chicago-area German immigrant community's proud organizational culture.
