Antique & Vintage Postcards

A candy-red convertible — almost certainly a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 — gleams in the parking lot of the Chanticleer Motor Lodge in Geneva, New York, conjuring the open-road optimism of mid-century American motor travel in this vivid chrome-era advertising card. A sparkling rectangular pool ringed with fire-engine-red lawn chairs anchors the lower panel, the motel's long, low-slung modernist wing reflected in the still water. The Chanticleer sat on U.S. Route 20 (State Route 5 west) in the Finger Lakes region, advertising a restaurant, cocktail lounge, and banquet rooms — all the amenities of the postwar leisure economy. The back lists Thruway Exit 42 and the telephone number (315) 789-7600. Published by Hannau-Robinson Color Productions of New York (475 Fifth Avenue), catalog no. 77505. Unused and in excellent condition, this card is a textbook chrome-era motel advertising piece with strong automotive interest.
