Antique & Vintage Postcards

Streetcars glide up a broad, tree-lined State Street as horse-drawn wagons and early pedestrians animate the foreground — a hand-colored birds-eye snapshot of Albany, New York, mailed on a January morning in 1907 when the city's downtown was still laced with trolley wire and Victorian commercial facades. The colorized lithograph gives warm amber and red tones to the brick storefronts lining the right side of the frame, while the distant capitol grounds loom green through winter-bare trees. Someone — perhaps a traveler named by initials only — dated the card "Jan 17, 1907" in a careful hand on the image face before sending it off to Cleveland, Ohio.
