Postcard 1913 Reformed Church Ellenville NY Ulster County Pre-Linen

Ellenville, New York, USA1913Pre-linenGood

A tall white steeple pierces a golden summer sky above the handsome Reformed Church of Ellenville, New York — a colorful German-printed card that captures the congregation's classical portico, broad front steps, and flanking elms in warm Edwardian hues. The Reformed Church in Ellenville (Ulster County) traces its roots to the Dutch Reformed tradition that shaped the Hudson Valley; by the early 1900s the building shown here — with its columned entrance and octagonal cupola — was a beloved village landmark. On a hot August day in 1913, a traveler named Kate dashed off one of history's most relatable messages to her friend Hannah: "we got here all right it was awful hot." The card was mailed from Ellenville to Hannah in Warwick, Orange County, NY (Box 344), carried by a crisp 1-cent Washington stamp.
