Postcard 1910 Wilson Ave Jewish Temple Cleveland Ohio Streetcar Tram #613

Cleveland, Ohio, USA1910Pre-linenGood

A gleaming yellow Cleveland streetcar No. 613 rounds the curve on Wilson Avenue while two figures in dark overcoats cross the tracks in front of the imposing Romanesque Revival bulk of the Wilson Avenue Jewish Temple — a vibrant street scene that captures urban Jewish communal life and the electric transit era at their shared early-20th-century peak. The stone temple's great round rose window and corbelled turrets dominate the left of the frame, while the trolley's bright color-lithographed body glows against the summer green of the surrounding trees. Published by the Cleveland News Company as a Mezzochrome card printed in Germany, this example was mailed on January 8, 1910, from Cleveland's Brooklyn Station. The sender, signing as Mae Barone, writes to Arthur in a warm, chatty hand: "Just received your letter, glad to hear from you. I had just mailed you a letter from Earle. We are all well and hope this will find you the same. Earle and I are going to the Cleveland Theater tonight, wish you were here." The card traveled to One Kinley, Isle of Pines, West Indies — an intriguing destination that places Arthur in what is now Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, then a significant American expatriate settlement. A 1-cent Franklin stamp (Scott #300 series) pays the international postcard rate.
