Postcard Chrysler Building New York City c1930 Linen Unused Manhattan Card Pub

New York City, New York, USA1931LinenExcellent

Rising in Art Deco splendor against a luminous turquoise and peach sky, the Chrysler Building dominates this early linen-era postcard from Manhattan Card Publishing Co. — the stainless steel sunburst crown and eagle gargoyles rendered with unmistakable pride just years after the tower's 1930 completion, when it briefly reigned as the world's tallest building. The warm gradient sky gives the composition a theatrical, almost cinematic quality, the tower's setbacks cascading downward to street level where tiny human figures suggest the building's impossible scale. Published shortly after the Chrysler Building's completion, this unused card captures a moment of genuine national excitement over the skyscraper race that defined Midtown Manhattan's skyline transformation. Manhattan Card Pub. Co. (catalog number 115) was a prolific New York publisher of the linen era.
