Postcard 1906 High School Lynn Mass Undivided Back Souvenir Card Co

Lynn, Massachusetts, USA1906Pre-linenGood

A turreted Romanesque Revival fortress of learning dominates this 1906 view — Lynn High School's dramatic stone towers and arched entrance rising from a manicured lawn in Lynn, Massachusetts, a city then booming with shoe manufacturing. The Souvenir Post Card Co. captured the building in crisp black-and-white halftone, conveying civic pride in an institution that served generations of working-class families. The card carries a charming personal message written diagonally across the image side in blue ink: a neighbor named (initial "G.S.") asks "Frank" whether both he and Ruby could call at her house for a pattern, promising to be home Saturday — a delightful snapshot of everyday Edwardian social life, when the postcard was the text message of its day. Addressed to Master Frank at 18 Rockaway St., Lynn, the card was mailed the same city it depicts, postmarked November 15, 1906, bearing a 1¢ Benjamin Franklin green stamp.
