Postcard 1920s Paris Arc de Triomphe Bois de Boulogne Avenue RPPC Yvon

Paris, France1923Pre-linenExcellent

A hushed autumnal morning on the Avenue du Bois de Boulogne — today's Avenue Foch — captured in a luminous real-photograph postcard by the celebrated Parisian publisher Édition d'Art Yvon: three women in long dark coats and cloche hats stroll the sandy promenade past a pram and its minder, with early motorcars threading past in the middle distance and the Arc de Triomphe rising majestically at the end of the great arboreal corridor. The fallen leaves carpeting the ground and the women's fashions — drop-waist coats, wide-brimmed hats, short white stockings on the youngest — firmly place this image in the early-to-mid 1920s, a moment when Paris was reassembling its glamour in the aftermath of the Great War. Yvon's series "Paris… En Flanant" (Paris… While Strolling) is one of the most refined and widely collected French postcard series of the interwar period; card no. 68. This example is unused, with a clean, unwritten reverse — a fine example ready for display.
