Antique & Vintage Postcards

A dark-haired woman seated on a draped chaise regards the viewer with calm self-possession in this refined academic nude study — a reproduction of a painting by Eduard Adrian Dussek, the Czech-Austrian artist known for his elegant figure studies exhibited across the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the early twentieth century. Published by Kilophot of Vienna as a Künstler-Karte (Artist Card) in their Art Nouveau-bordered series, this unused postcard embodies the era's fashionable merging of fine-art reproduction and the postcard medium: galleries, salons, and resort shops across Central Europe sold such cards to cultured travelers as affordable art souvenirs. The back carries the ornate Kilophot Wien publisher's cartouche surrounded by Art Nouveau floral vine borders, the card number J.K. 53, and a standard divided-back stamp box — entirely blank, never sent. Dussek's figure style, with its warm flesh tones against cool green and dark upholstery, reflects the academic realism fashionable in Vienna and Prague circa 1908–1915.
