Postcard Peabody Institute Peabody Mass 1905 Rotograph Undivided Back Chrome

Peabody, Massachusetts, USA1905Pre-linenGood

Draped in a lush curtain of Boston ivy, the Peabody Institute Library stands in warm afternoon light on this vivid early-colour Rotograph card — the arched Gothic windows and columned entrance porch visible through the greenery, a handsome red-brick annex rising to the left, cast-iron fence lining the sidewalk in front. Founded through the philanthropy of merchant and financier George Peabody and opened in 1854, the Peabody Institute in the city that bears his name served as the town's public library and community anchor for generations; the building depicted here remains in use today as the Peabody Institute Library. This card was published by the Rotograph Co. of New York City (printed in Germany), catalogue number G 6665, copyright 1905 — the back is the pre-divided undivided-address-only format, confirming production right at the cusp of the 1907 U.S. divided-back transition. A handwritten notation "Oct. 1905" appears on the front lower margin, suggesting the card was acquired or noted by a contemporary collector that autumn. Never posted, it is clean and bright with only minor corner toning.
