Antique & Vintage Postcards

A stone administration building perches at the mountain's edge above a sweeping panorama of Brazil's Atlantic coastal plain in this real photo postcard of Alto da Serra, high above the historic railway village of Paranapiacaba. Built beginning in the 1860s by British engineers for workers of the São Paulo Railway, the village and its mountaintop viewpoint commanded one of the most dramatic vistas in the state — a sightline all the way to the port of Santos below.
