Postcard Hotel Aguilar Cozumel Quintana Roo Mexico Chrome Multi-View

Cozumel, Mexico1975ChromeExcellent

A sun-drenched snapshot of early tourism on Cozumel island, this vivid chrome multi-view card captures Hotel Aguilar before the resort boom swallowed the sleepy fishing village whole — a yellow VW Thing jeep and a row of mopeds parked out front speak volumes about how visitors got around in the pre-cruise-ship era. Four panels showcase the hotel's filtered swimming pool shaded by swaying palms, a flower-lined corridor of whitewashed guest rooms with window-unit air conditioners, a tidy twin-bedded room with rattan furniture, and that memorable street-front entrance. Cozumel, part of Quintana Roo territory (it didn't become a full Mexican state until 1974), was being actively marketed to divers and adventurers when this card circulated; the Aguilar also ran a vehicle rental sideline — "Aguilar Rent a Car" — catering to independent travelers eager to explore the island's jungle roads and Caribbean coastline. A charming primary-source artifact of pre-mass-tourism Mexico.
