Postcard c1925 Dalton High School Dalton MA Handcolored Albertype Daly

Dalton, Massachusetts, USA1925Pre-linenExcellent

Brick and mortar civic pride stretches across a generous Berkshire County lot in this hand-colored view of Dalton High School — a stately Colonial Revival building with arched windows, white stone trim, and symmetrical entrance pavilions that would have inspired confidence in any taxpayer of the 1920s. The Albertype Company of Brooklyn, New York was one of the finest producers of hand-colored collotype postcards in America, and their craftsmanship shows here in the delicate gradation from warm brick to pale sky. The card was distributed locally by George M. Daly of the Irving House, Dalton — a hotel newsstand dealer typical of the era. Unused and in remarkable condition, this card is a clean artifact of small-town New England educational architecture at its most aspirational.
