Antique & Vintage Postcards

A canopy of pure flame — Florida's Royal Poinciana blazes scarlet against a cloudless turquoise sky in this vibrant mid-century chrome-era postcard, its wide, umbrella-shaped crown sprawling over a manicured lawn with a white structure peeking through at right. The Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia), introduced to South Florida from Madagascar, became one of the state's most beloved ornamental trees and a perennial subject for souvenir cards sold at roadside stands and gift shops throughout the 1950s–70s. The Curt Teich company's proprietary "3-D Natural Color Reproduction" process gives the blossoms an almost otherworldly intensity, the kind of saturated color that made tourists reach for their wallets. The card was never mailed, leaving it crisp and square-cornered — a near-perfect survivor of Florida's golden tourism era.
