Postcard 1960s Chrome Lombard Street Crookedest in World San Francisco CA

San Francisco, California, USA1960ChromeExcellent

A car inches its way down the legendary eight hairpin curves of Lombard Street — San Francisco's Russian Hill showpiece ablaze with hydrangeas and ice plant in vivid mid-century color, apartment towers of the 1960s skyline rising behind the serpentine brick roadway in a scene that has defined tourist imagination for generations. Photographed by Igor Stchogoleff for the H.S. Crocker Co., this chrome-era card captures the street at the height of its postwar fame, when the "Crookedest Street in the World" moniker was still unchallenged and a leisurely descent by fin-tailed automobile was considered a genuine San Francisco adventure. The reverse is blank — never mailed — preserving the card in especially clean condition, published by Smith News Co. of Mission Street and printed as a Mirro-Krome card, a premium chrome process known for its crisp color saturation.
