The Cologne Opera House, opened in 1902 and designed by Carl Moritz, was a jewel of Wilhelmine cultural life; this card was mailed on July 29, 1924, in the turbulent depths of the Weimar hyperinflation era, franked with a 5 Pfennig Deutsches Reich eagle stamp. The sender — possibly Max, based on a legible closing — wrote in densely packed German cursive to Frau (Mrs.) at an address in Pirmasens, with a forwarding notation to another location, suggesting the recipient was traveling.
