Postcard 1930s Schloss Albrechtsburg Meissen Germany RPPC Wendelstein

Meissen, Saxony, Germany1933RPPCExcellent

Towering against a moody, cloud-swept Saxon sky, the great spiral staircase tower — the Große Wendelstein — of Schloss Albrechtsburg in Meissen rises in breathtaking Gothic splendor, its tiered open arcades stacked like lacework in stone, the whole captured in a crisp real-photo (Echte Photographie) gelatin silver print that renders every carved pinnacle and gargoyle with razor clarity. Albrechtsburg, begun in 1471 and considered one of Germany's first true palace castles, occupies a commanding hilltop above the Elbe; from 1710 to 1863 it also served as the original home of Meissen porcelain manufacture. Publisher Brück & Sohn of Meissen — the preeminent regional postcard house — issued this as card no. 25062, likely in the early-to-mid 1930s based on the Echte Photographie oval stamp and card stock. The reverse is entirely blank — unused, unaddressed, in excellent condition — making this a fine example of the high-quality architectural RPPC that German publishers produced for the tourist trade.
