Antique & Vintage Postcards

Steam ferries jostle at the Skeppsbron quay as the red dome of the Skeppsholmen church floats above the tree-lined island in this hand-tinted early Swedish postcard — a luminous snapshot of Stockholm's waterfront at the very dawn of the picture-postcard era, when the harbour still belonged to coal smoke and wooden pilings rather than tourist cruise ships. The colorized photograph captures vessels including the identifiable "Gefle" at dock, with a passenger steamer cutting across the middle distance toward the island; the city skyline beyond shows the characteristic mix of neoclassical and eclectic buildings of the 1890s–1900s. Published by K. Holmström and printed on a "Brefkort / Carte postale" undivided back with the instruction "Denna sida användes endast för adresseringen" (this side used only for the address), placing it firmly in the pre-1907 undivided-back era. The card is unused and retains vivid colour.
