Battle of Lexington Revolutionary War Postcard 1906 Detroit Publishing Phostint

Lexington, Massachusetts, USA1908Pre-linenGood

Vivid with the smoke and chaos of April 19, 1775, this richly colored "Phostint" lithograph postcard from the Detroit Publishing Company captures the opening volley of the American Revolution — colonial Minutemen in blue and buff trading fire with ranks of red-coated British regulars on Lexington Green, the village meetinghouse and tavern visible through the gun smoke in the background. Detroit Publishing's proprietary Phostint process, patented in 1898, produced some of the finest chromolithographic color of the early postcard era, and this example retains exceptional vibrancy. Card no. 7746 places it within the company's well-documented American history series. The reverse follows the divided-back format introduced in 1907, with space for both message and address, suggesting a date of c.1907–1915. A penciled price notation "1¢ / 2¢" appears in the stamp box area — a dealer or stock notation — but the card was never mailed and carries no stamp or postmark.
