Postcard Needham Motor Inn MA Chrome Pool Scene c1963 Route 128 Unused

Needham, Massachusetts, USA1963ChromeExcellent

A boy in black trunks clutches a rainbow beach ball at the pool's edge while another kid launches a torpedo dive behind him — this chrome-era advertising card for the Needham Motor Inn on Route 128 in Needham, Massachusetts is a pitch-perfect time capsule of early 1960s American motor-court optimism, complete with turquoise patio chairs, a girl in a red one-piece gripping the ladder, and a parking lot full of tail-finned Detroit iron just visible beyond the chain-link fence. The motel itself — a long, low-slung brick building with the barrel-vault skylight windows fashionable in Eisenhower-era commercial architecture — sits on 100 Cabot Street at Exit 56E, and the back copy promises air-conditioned rooms, TV, a swimming pool, banquet rooms, a restaurant, and a cocktail lounge, with the reassurance of being just one mile from the Mass. Pike. Produced as a "Superchrome" colour product by Bill Bard Associates of Monticello, New York, catalogue number 119579, this unused card captures the precise cultural moment when the American family road trip was at its sunlit, chlorine-scented zenith.
