Antique & Vintage Postcards

A solitary stroller in red trousers rounds a bend on the sun-dappled driveway of Pine Banks Park in Malden, Massachusetts — a rare human accent in an otherwise verdant Edwardian landscape of towering pines, manicured shrubs, and a rustic stone-edged planting bed. Pine Banks Park, established on land donated to the cities of Malden and Medford in the late 19th century, was a prized suburban retreat, and this hand-colored postcard from around 1910 captures it at the height of its early popularity. The PGC "Superior Quality" diamond imprint on the back places this firmly in the undivided-back transitional era, while the stamp box noting "United States and Canada — One Cent / Foreign — Two Cents" confirms a post-1907 date. The painterly colorization gives the scene an almost theatrical warmth, the yellow staking rods beside the young evergreen adding an unexpectedly modern note.
