Postcard 1921 Linen Pine Grove Park St. Clair River Port Huron MI Used

Port Huron, Michigan, USA1921LinenGood

Twilight warms the St. Clair River to shades of rose and amber in this evocative linen-era view of Pine Grove Park in Port Huron, Michigan — a lone globe lamp stands sentinel on the riverbank promenade, freighters pass in the distance, and the dense canopy of the park's namesake pines cascades down the bluff in deep green shadow, conjuring a quiet lakeside evening of the early 1920s. Port Huron's Pine Grove Park has been a beloved civic green since the mid-19th century, overlooking one of the busiest commercial waterways in North America; the industrial buildings faintly visible across the river add an authentic texture of working-class Great Lakes life to what might otherwise be a purely pastoral scene. Mailed from St. Louis, Missouri, on October 24, 1921 — postmarked at 11:30 PM — and addressed in care of the Stringer household at 14th & Miller in Port Huron, the card carries a handwritten message (partially legible) signed with a name beginning "C." The 2¢ Washington stamp in red is characteristic of the era's standard letter rate.
