Antique & Vintage Postcards

Commanding and sun-drenched, this chrome-era aerial looks south down Congress Avenue from the dome of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, where a massive American flag billows from a towering flagpole in the foreground and the bold red-white-blue Lone Star flag of Texas flies proudly below it — a patriotic double portrait set against a downtown of mid-century brick and concrete blocks stretching toward the horizon where the Colorado River glints and St. Edward's University rises on its hill. Period automobiles pepper the streets below, frozen in the amber of a Texas afternoon circa the early-to-mid 1960s. The Plastichrome process, a Color Picture Publishers specialty out of Boston, gives the image its characteristic rich, slightly warm tonality. Distributed exclusively by Colyer Photo Service of Arlington, Texas, this card is unused with a clean verso.
