Antique & Vintage Postcards

Postmarked from Lubbock, Texas on March 10, 1963, this well-traveled chrome postcard offers a smoky, atmospheric glimpse inside Lester's Hickory Inn at Monterrey Center — a rustic steakhouse where an open hickory-wood grill dominates the dining room, its hood and grate center stage amid rough-hewn timber beams, barnwood walls, and a scattering of Windsor chairs set with paper menus and condiment bottles. The warmly affectionate message on the reverse is from a woman named Lona to a young woman named Gay, reporting that a friend named Oleal is "feeling much better" and "looks good" after apparent illness — and urging Gay to come join Ruth, Gale, and Arthur for Easter. It's a touching slice of everyday 1960s social life in West Texas. The 4¢ Higher Education stamp (Scott #1206) ties the mailing precisely to 1962–1963 issue.
