Postcard Galveston Beach TX Seawall Crowds c.1907 Pre-Linen Unused Color

Galveston, Texas, USA1907Pre-linenGood

Dozens of Edwardian-dressed visitors — women with parasols, men in dark suits and bowlers, children in white pinafores — stroll, lounge, and wade along the broad sand of Galveston Beach in this brilliantly colored early-twentieth-century card, the great concrete seawall rising behind them as testament to the city's determined rebirth after the catastrophic 1900 hurricane that killed thousands. Published while Galveston was actively rebuilding its tourist identity and promoting the new grade-raising and seawall engineering project to the nation, this unused card (No. 7312) captures the beach's democratic appeal — the wall not yet fully aged, the street behind it still lined with modest bathhouses and the faint outline of the Ward Hotel. The undivided-back style and "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" stamp box date this card to the 1905–1907 window.
