Antique & Vintage Postcards

Sun-drenched and freshly built, the Mess Hall of the Agricultural & Mechanical College of Texas gleams in vivid linen-print color in this Curt Teich card postmarked December 9, 1934 — the arched windows, colonnaded portico, and Spanish-tile red roof speak to the ambitious campus expansion of the interwar years at what would become Texas A&M University. The writer, who signs himself "Bob," dashes off a note to his grandmother Dora in nearby Milano, Texas: "Well, here I am down your part of the country — wish I could see you but I haven't time now. Will probably get to go to school Feb. 5 here. Will know by 13th of Jan. if I will or not. Be sure and answer my letter. We are all O.K. Love, Bob." A tender Depression-era family moment on the cusp of a young man's college future.
