Postcard 1960s Chrome Family Group of Emus Australia Nu-Color-Vue Eggs Nest

Australia1965ChromeExcellent

Two massive Australian emus — one towering adult and a smaller juvenile — stand sentinel over a clutch of seven deep blue-green eggs nestled in the grass of a pine-dotted enclosure, in this striking chrome-era nature postcard produced by Nu-Color-Vue of Australia. The adult bird's shaggy, hair-like plumage fills the right half of the frame in extraordinary textural detail, its scaled legs and sharp talons anchoring it to the earth with prehistoric authority. The saturated color palette — vivid greens, that extraordinary dark teal of the eggs, the bird's steel-grey feathers — exemplifies the high-quality photographic reproduction that made Nu-Color-Vue a leading Australian postcard publisher from the 1950s through the 1980s. The reverse notes that the female lays about nine eggs and "the male does the brooding" — an ornithological curiosity that made emus a perennial favourite on Australian tourist cards.
