A waddling army of little blue penguins — known then as "Fairy Penguins" — streams across the moonlit sand of Phillip Island, Victoria, in this vivid Nu-Color-Vue chrome card that captures one of Australia's most beloved wildlife spectacles. Photographer A. J. Murray of Cowes documented these diminutive seabirds emerging nightly from Bass Strait to return to their burrows, a ritual that drew tourists from across the world and still does today. The warm amber sand contrasts beautifully against the teal-toned dusk sky, and a dozen birds jostle and flap in characteristic fashion, some mid-stride with flippers outstretched. Nu-Color-Vue Productions Pty. Ltd. was among Australia's premier postcard publishers of the mid-20th century, and their richly saturated chrome printing is prized by collectors of Australiana and wildlife cards alike. This unused example retains its vivid colour and crisp deckle edge.
