Antique & Vintage Postcards

A dapper golden donkey in a top hat and black coat bows low beneath the punchy slogan "Had an Elegant Time Even if I Did Make an Ass of Myself" — a comic card sent in 1906 by a writer who had just returned from a trip to Coney Island, dashing off a breezy note to a friend named Harry about a "fine time" and news that "Len is coming after us Thursday." The card captures the breezy, self-deprecating humor of Edwardian American comic postcards at the peak of the golden age of mailing — when the one-cent postal rate made cards the text messages of their era. The reverse bears a Middletown, New York machine cancel dated August 30, 1906, with a 1-cent Benjamin Franklin green stamp affixed and clearly cancelled. Minor wear and toning consistent with age; the front image remains bright and legible with the comic illustration in yellow and black retaining strong color.
